Plein Air

Artist Statement
Plein Air is a method of painting where one travels to a location and paints on site. It is rooted in the1800s Impressionist movement where artists captured the immediacy of the moment in the world around them. I continue this method and combine it with contemporary techniques such as fluorescent underpaintings to give the painting a fun, playful feeling. This practice is a direct contrast to the darker themed topics I covered in my BFA Thesis and allows me to focus on the light in the world around us. It is important to balance the darkness with light as the balance keeps an artist in a healthy mindset and allows for moments of tranquility in a chaotic society.
