Contemporary painter and artist Julia Niepert [American, b. 2001] creates deeply compelling works that balance elegance with unease. Her practice ranges from plein air landscapes painted with sensitivity to light, to darker, concept-driven multidisciplinary pieces exploring themes of gender, societal injustice, and the unseen forces shaping human experience.

She earned her Bachelor of Science in Art Education and Bachelor of Fine Arts with a focus in painting from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 2025. Now living and working in Illinois, she maintains a growing presence as an emerging artist, with a body of work that resonates across both local exhibitions and the broader conversation of contemporary art.

"All things in life can be painted in darkness or light, it is up to you to decide which you will show the world." Julia M Niepert

My Story

Growing up in rural Southern Illinois, there was not much to do. I spent much of my time making art and watching horror movies with my dad. I was infatuated with horror special effects, and my dad always reassured me it was not real and "just a movie". As I grew into adulthood, I started to realize that the truly horrific happens in real life and often behind closed doors. Raised to be outspoken about fairness and injustices, I felt like I could bring attention to those who suffer in silence and hopefully make a change in the world through my artwork. I am constantly growing as an artist, but my core "why" is to bring light into the world that so often feels dark and to do it in the most utilitarian way possible.
