Playing Cards

2024 and 2025

House of Cards is a commentary on the fragility of a home built upon addiction, specifically gambling. The structure of the house mirrors the instability inherent in a life driven by greed and chance. It initially appears intact, yet is always on the verge of collapse. Its foundation is unreliable, dependent on risk rather than security.

Scattered across the floor are Joker cards, which represent the owners of the home. Traditionally associated with unpredictability, deception, and chaos, the Jokers symbolize how gambling addiction consumes personal identity. Rather than being in control, the owners become subjects of the game, defined by luck and loss, which becomes a tragic irony as they should be seen as kings and queens.

Within this environment, the children are forced to grow up in uncertainty, shaped by an unstable home where security and care are never guaranteed. The domestic space, usually a place of safety and permanence, is now one blow from toppling over. House of Cards invites viewers to reflect on how easily the illusion of control can crumble when a home and the lives inside it are built on risk, obsession, and false hope.
